Varvara Gnucheva was born in Russia in 1983 and now lives in France. She comes from the celebrated Benois–Lanceray family that includes Alexandre Benois, Evgeny Lanceray, Zinaida Serebryakova, and Alexandre Serebriakoff, artists who shaped Russian and French cultural heritage. Varvara carries their tradition forward while developing a distinctive visual language rooted in professional icon-painting training. Through her paintings and icons she invites viewers to notice the quiet joy of city streets, roofs, and trees; every miniature glows like a warm jewel.
Since 2013 Varvara has been a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, and since 2017 a member of La Maison des Artistes. Her works reside in public and private collections across Russia, France, and Greece, and she is a regular participant in contemporary art exhibitions and catalogues throughout Europe and the United States.
